Loving without Agendas

"Loving people means caring without an agenda. As soon as we have an agenda, it's not love anymore." -Bob Goff

Almost everyone on most days, whether spoken or unspoken, have agendas.  It’s not always wrong to have agendas, but at times agendas can get in our way of loving other people.  I have learned that instead of going up to others to share what it is that I’m offering, I strive to learn what I can about them and how I can help.  Maybe there is something I can give— a helping hand, warm smile, listening ear, a connection to someone else or something, or an encouraging word—so that they sense the love of God in me.  More often than not, if we take care of the needs of others, regardless of whether they ever take an interest in us or our agendas, then in one way or another God will take care of our needs.  The love we give always comes back to us.

Let all that you do be done in love (1 Corinthians 16:14, ESV).
