Let Go, Let God

“Where God guides, God provides.” -Chuck Smith

It is often difficult for us to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit if it means we are to let go of something—maybe a job, a relationship, or habit—to risk coming away empty-handed.  It usually feels easier to settle wherever it is that we are now than to brave charting waters of the unknown.  Deep down though, we know we can’t stay wherever it is we are, because we won’t like wherever it is that we end up.  Worse, it could lead to even bigger heartbreak or self-sabotage later.  We must trust that God truly does have an individual plan for us, and it always revolves around nothing less than His own glory; so, in any case that aren’t living in such a way that brings Him glory, that’s a good indicator that a change must be made.  Just as Abraham sacrificially let go of Isaac to show God that He put nothing before Him, we too must show God that we are willing to let go of anything to follow His lead.  God provided a ram in the thicket for Abraham to sacrifice in Isaac’s stead, and God too provides in unique ways we don’t initially foresee when we choose to obey the Spirit’s lead.  The simple lesson is that we must let go of whatever our “it” is to let God have His way.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly (Ps. 84:11, NIV).
