Hoping in Christ

“If you have been reduced to God being your only hope, you are in a good place.”  -Jim Laffoon

There are tons of things that we could place our hope in this life.  We could hope in a goal or a dream, job, a retirement account or a relationship—and none of these things are bad things in and of themselves—but if we are placing our hope in anything above or beside Christ then we are by definition putting our hope in an idol.  You see, an idol doesn’t have to be a golden calf, it could be anything that captivates our attention more than God.  My point isn’t to rebuke us, but simply to ask that we check our hearts today and every day, so that we put God in His rightful place: first.  When we do, God can really begin to use us because we start seeing the world through the lens that Christ sees us, and in effect we become less self-absorbed and more mission-minded, not living for the temporary but for the eternal.

All who have this hop in him purify themselves, just as he is pure (1 John 3:3, NIV).
