Meditation is the tongue of the soul and the language of our spirit.  -Jeremy Taylor

I heard a famous preacher suggest that the structure of a prayer should go like this: adoration, repentance, thanks, and petition.  While I believe that these are important elements in a prayer, I also think that sometimes it’s best to say nothing.  Meditate on God’s goodness and let Him go to work on your heart and mind.  After all, if you expect to converse with God, then by definition prayer can’t be a monologue; it has to be a dialogue.

I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways (Psalm 119:15, ESV).
