“Love yourself. Respect yourself. Never sell yourself
short.” –Marcus Allen
The other day at my job I exercised in a staff workout. The fitness instructor asked us to
separate into groups to do sprints.
The slower being Group 3, mid-speed being Group 2, and fastest being
Group 1. Hastily I opted for Group
2, my rationale being that I’m a long distance runner and not a sprinter. I didn’t want to be exposed as slower
than the rest (especially since I have a blog directly related to
running!). So I ran with Group 2,
and I won. Afterward I couldn’t
help but think that it would have been better to have tried and failed in Group
1 than to sell myself short in Group 2.
I was much more prepared than I realized. How often do we have this very mentality of selling
ourselves short? My guess would be
that it happens all too frequently.
God has designed you with unique gifts, and He doesn’t want you to sell
those gifts short. Whether you’re
a musician, businessman, blogger, or physician—run with the ones!
I can do all
things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13, ESV).
