“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember
it.” -L.M. Montgomery
One year my family tried Icelandic
Hangikjöt, a smoked lamb, instead of the usual turkey Christmas
entrée. Almost everyone made fun
of its name because it doesn’t sound appetizing (the pronunciation sounds like
an American curse word). Some
wanted to go back to turkey, but it was important to my Icelandic mother that
we’d at least try it. We did and
it grew on us. Now Hangikjöt has been a Christmas tradition for the last decade. Sometimes the best gifts aren’t
material. For my mom it was Hangikjöt, and you can’t quite put a price tag on that. This Christmas find new ways to make
memories by giving in such away that truly brings someone joy.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in
your power to do it (Proverbs 3:27, ESV).
