It Depends on What The Meaning of IS Is

It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘IS’ is.” -Bill Clinton

Some might reason that a ‘white lie’ is not breaking the 9th commandment, “To not bear false witness”(Exodus 20:16), because this particular lie isn’t hurting a fly. Others may rationalize that a blue-collar crime cannot hurt as many people as a white-collar crime. This raises a question: Is some sin worse than other sin? Our philosophy of priority is not the precedent God places on sin. The truth is that from God’s throne, when it comes to eternal consequences, sin IS sin. A ‘church-goer’ cannot balance out their bad with their good, because God isn’t an accountant. Romans 3:23 states, “We have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It’s through God’s grace alone that we are saved. 1 Corinthians 15:31 says, We “die every day”—(we repent) to acknowledge that Christ has purchased the ransom for our sins through the cross. If we deny our sins, we are denying our freedom Jesus has afforded us.
