Giving Back Involves A Certain Amount Of Giving Up

“Giving back involves a certain amount of giving up.” –Colin Powell

We hear scriptures, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35) and “The earth belongs to God, and everything in it” (Psalm 24)—and many enjoy giving like they enjoy getting teeth pulled. God is surely talking to those ‘other people’: those who can afford it. But if one cannot afford to give when they have “little”—then what makes them think they will later obey God and give even in their abundance? Non-believers come to know the one true God not just by what we say, but many times by what we give—time, gas, maybe a paid lunch, whatever resources we have. When Christians give back, it sometimes blesses the giver more than the receiver, perhaps all of psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. One thing for sure is we’re letting go of what could have strongest hold on us, and giving up to God what’s already His.
