Habit Is Overcome By Habit

“A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit.” -Desiderius Erasmus

If Christians could focus more on forming new habits than breaking old ones, the new habit could consequently break the old, and we could be more productive. Daniel had a habit of giving thanks to God in prayer three times a day (Daniel 6:10); Jesus had a habit of going to church every Sabbath (Luke 3:16); and David had a habit of praising God continually (Psalms 34:1). People read about ‘successful people’, become inspired, learn of their techniques, but fail to put the newfound knowledge into practice. Personally I cannot run a marathon if I don’t first decide to jog the neighborhood just like I can’t read the Bible in a year if I cannot find the motivation to read at least five chapters a day. What one habit do you want to form? Let’s start forming this life-transforming habit today.
